AcanChia® Seeds

AcanChia® derives from the cultivated Chia crop „Salvia hispanica L.“ Chia is a sort of salvia which originally comes from Middle- and South America. In Mexico Chia has been known as a food for 5500 years.

The Mayas and Aztecs already used this extraordinary plant as a staple. The name Chia derives from the Maya language and means power. The powerful properties of the Chia seeds are legendary. In the distribution area of Chia runners, soldiers and athletes ate this plant for centuries in order to gain energy, endurance and power (“Running Food”). Especially soldiers felt mentally and physically superior to their enemies by regular intake of Chia.

Amaranth Seeds

Since many thousands of years ago amaranth is a basic food and was used as a sacrifice for the Gods. The plant was considered holy. Incas and Aztecs believed that with amaranth they found the source of power. In times of the Spanish Conquista the cultivation was forbidden and the fields were destroyed by the Spanish conquerors in order to eliminate the native tribes´ religion, society and source of energy. Botanically amaranth does not belong to the family of grasses like other cereals, but to the family of the Amaranthaceae and is therefore considered a pseudo-cereal. The word Amaranth comes from Greek and means “immortal” or “not fading”.
It is a very productive and at the same time very frugal plant. Depending on the environment the plant becomes between 50 cm and 2 m in height within one year and forms thousands of small seeds. The plant does not need much water and grows at big altitudes. The seeds contain ingredients which are not usually found in other food stuffs, approx. 1/3 more fibers and zinc than wheat, roughly double the amount of iron as well as high contents of magnesium and calcium makes amaranth a highly valuable food.


Lemon Verbena leaves (organic)

Lemon verbena, originally from South America, is meanwhile cultivated all over the world especially in Argentina, Paraquay, France, Morocco, and Turkey.
The herb is traditionally used as a spice and a medicinal plant. The leaves possess digestive, sedative and stomachic properties, and they exhibit a fresh, slightly bitter and mint-lemon-tasting flavour. Traditionally it is used as tea for the treatment of asthma, cold, fever, indigestion and skin diseases. due to its highly antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties.


Yerba mate comes from the dried leaves of a shrub tree (Ilex paraguariensis) and has been used as a base for herbal medicines in South America for centuries. The tea contains higher levels of antioxidants than green tea. Yerba mate’s robust nutrition, combined with the natural caffeine and mood-elevating theobromine makes it a healthy and balanced energy source.

Moldavian Dragonhead

Dracocephalum moldavica is a herb with fragrant lemon scented leaves and showy blue flowers, used for making refreshing teas. Dragonhead tea tastes stronger than lemon balm and uplifts the spirit, lightens heavy emotions and gives the heart courage. Dragonhead tea is astringent, tonic and anti-oxidant. The leaves keep its scent when dried.

Physalis (Dried) Fruits

The fruits of Physalis peruviana (Cape Gooseberries) are juicy, mildly astringent and sweet with a pleasant blend of acid. The overall quality of the fruit is good and can be used in order to prepare desserts (pies, cakes, jellies, compotes, jams etc.). Its flavor has been defined as a pleasant, unique tomato /pineapple like blend.
Contrary to various citrus fruits, Physalis demonstrates not only a high content of vitamin C, but also carotene.
The fruits are juicy and can be eaten raw, used in salads, desserts, as a flavoring, and in jams and jellies. They are excellent when dipped in chocolate. The raw fruit can also be used as a vegetable and is similar to common tomato.
The dried fruit can be used as a raisin substitute, though it is not so sweet. The dried fruit is also said to be a substitute for yeast.
Physalis is cultured in Peru organic and in near future fair-trade. The fruits are offered dried or spray-dried.


Quinoa Seeds

Quinoa is one of the oldest crop plants cultivated by humans. The plant was used by the natives of the South American Andes as a basic food for more than 6000 years. Botanically quinoa belongs to the family of spinach, chard and beetroot.
Quinoa is a frugal and extremely robust plant. It grows from Columbia to Chile in subtropic to tropic altitudes of up to 4000 m where maize and barley do not grow. Quinoa is able to survive under extreme weather conditions like intensive sunshine and slight night frost. Also bad soil, wind, dryness and wetness are well tolerated by the plant. Today quinoa is basically grown in Ecuador, Peru and especially in Bolivia.
The nutrient profile of quinoa classifies the plant as a high-quality food, especially the seeds. Its protein content is around 15% and so the highest ever found in plant seeds.
The seeds are also rich in amino acids like lysine, tryptophane and cystine. The biological value of quinoa is considered to be higher than that of soy beans and cereals. Quinoa is also comparable with milk. It is therefore highly appreciated by vegetarians and does not contain any gluten.
